Il s’agit des premières journées d’études consacrées aux réseaux de pouvoir dans la société́ égyptienne à être organisées en France. La société́ de l’Égypte ancienne est organisée autour d’institutions : lieux de culte, palais, structures étatiques et économiques. Fonctionnant grâce à une administration importante, allant du simple scribe au vizir en passant par les prêtres, ces dernières ont toujours constitué un enjeu de pouvoir majeur. C’est dans ce cadre que se sont constitués de véritables réseaux, d’abord centrés autour d’une famille puis s’étendant selon des paramètres qui restent à définir. Ainsi, pour bien comprendre la société́ de l’Égypte antique, ainsi que la place d’un individu dans son époque, l’étude de ces réseaux de pouvoir est primordiale. Depuis plusieurs décennies, l’analyse des réseaux sociaux (SNA = Social Network Analysis) s’est imposée comme un objet d’étude central des sciences humaines et sociales, et c’est sur cet axe que s’inscrit ce projet.

The workshop are organised in the University Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3. They are devoluted to the Society and the Networks of Power in Ancient Egypt (SERPÉA) as a first edition. The event will take place on 20 and 21 June 2024 (Thursday and Friday), site Saint-Charles 1, salle des colloques 2.

This is the first workshop devoted to power networks in Egyptian society to be organised in France. Ancient Egyptian society was structured around various institutions, including cult places and palaces, all of which operated with the support of a highly efficient administrative system. From the lowly scribe to the vizier, with a particular emphasis on priests, a multitude of officials were involved within these institutions, as they represented significant power centres. Subsequently, power networks developed, initially revolving around family connections and later extending to other individuals, according to specificities that are still not entirely comprehended. This is why considering power networks is crucial when studying Ancient Egyptian society, shedding light on the unique position of each individual. Social Network Analysis (SNA) has been an indispensable tool in the study of social and human sciences for several decades, and this conference contributes to this ongoing exploration.
